ABOUT US

University of Kentucky

We are a collection of College students studying at the University of Kentucky. We took a class that emphasized the history of the Appalachian region, primarily the Frontier Nursing Services effects on the region. Our group, when asked to research a more specific effect of the FNS (Frontier Nursing Service), decided to research “birth controls successful integration into rural appalachia through the Frontier Nursing Service”. Through this project we all went through many research outlets, such as; the OHMS center, the Nunn Center, and the Special Collections offered through our university. This project consists of many first hand experiences of those affected from the midwives, as well as research done on the women of appalachia. We also thought it would be important to add a little background information on the Birth Control movements going on. Some of these sources, such as the special collections, are only available to University of Kentucky, which is why we chose to publish this information for everyone to get access too.
